Continuing with our Rewind series, which sees us spotlight some of our favorite Carhartt WIP Radio shows buried in our archive, this week sees us look back on the classic meets contemporary electronics sounds of London-based label Erased Tapes, as well as our 2012 Mark Ernestus with Tikiman show, bringing unruly reggae and dub sensations. We round things off with a more recent show from 2016, put together by Los Angeles-based instrumental hip hop producer Knxwledge introducing his very own musical rarities.
Carhartt WIP Radio March 2014: Erased Tapes - Radio Show
Avant-garde classical, left field electronics, bass productions, and straight-up Indie songwriter jams: the independent Anglo-German label Erased Tapes Records prides itself on being multidimensional. Since 2007 the company has functioned as a platform for innovative musicians like Ólafur Arnalds from Iceland, German composer Nils Frahm, American multi-instrumentalist Peter Broderick, and UK singer-songwriter Douglas Dare. In 2014, Erased Tapes displayed its mesmerizing diversity for Carhartt WIP Radio, with a show that provides insight into the label’s musical approach – from classic to electronic and beyond.
Carhartt WIP Radio July 2012: Mark Ernestus with Tikiman - Radio Show
In summer 2012 Carhartt WIP Radio released a show by Mark Ernestus alongside the mighty Singjay Tikiman. As the founder of the legendary Hard Wax record store in Berlin, Ernestus laid the foundation for the city’s electronic music scene in 1989. As one half of Basic Channel, he went on to gain global recognition, thanks to his unique hybrid of dub and techno. Additionally, as part of the duo Rhythm & Sound, he refined dub alongside a host of vocalists, most notably Tikiman. For Carhartt WIP Radio, the duo provided a mix loaded with rare gems by reggae legends such as Prince Jazzbo, Nitty Gritty, and Ken Boothe. Tune in and get hooked on timeless bass pleasures.
